Play a key role as the 2nd line of defense, in enhancing operational risk management across a leading financial institution by coordinating operational risk initiatives and supporting critical risk management functions.Engage with diverse internal stakeholders—including regional teams and group headquarters—to drive effective communication, build strong peer networks, and facilitate seamless collaboration on operational risk-related matters.What you'll do:
As a Vice President in the Operational Risk Management team based in Hong Kong, you will immerse yourself in a multifaceted role that places you at the centre of the organisation’s efforts to maintain robust operational risk framework.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve orchestrating operational risk initiatives, ensuring regulatory compliance is met across the organization.
You will collaborate with colleagues from all departments within the organization as well as Regional and Head Office on managing operational risk initiatives and activities.
Your ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels including senior level will be essential as you coordinate operational risk initiatives, projects and activities, and foster a culture of shared responsibility for risk management.
Success in this role will come from your meticulous approach to project management, effective communication, workflow coordination, your proactive support of leadership objectives, and your talent for building trusted relationships across the organisation.
Execute operational risk oversight/management and activities to ensure alignment with the organization’s overall strategy and regulatory requirements.Execute implementation plan and drive new development, enhancement, and integration of risk management frameworks, collaborating with relevant divisions and head/regional offices in pursuit of longer-term strategic goals set by senior management.Develop and implement the operational risk management framework and policies by referring to the regulatory requirement and the industry’s best practice.Plan and lead operational risk projects and initiatives including local/regional/global enhancement of risk governance and risk controls, by leveraging people, technology, data, business processes, and controls to address the bank’s operational risks.
Understand strategy of Business Units and Supporting Functions as required and support for relevant parties as required to improve relevant risk control capabilities in accordance to the risk management policy and procedure.Review & challenge as 2nd line to relevant 1st lines, while focusing on raise awareness and instilling in the 1st line risk ownership within the 1st line.
Partner with relevant businesses and functions or offices to promote risk governance and right level of risk controls in operational risk and responsible domains.Implement effective operational risk management tools, including Risk & Controls Self-Assessments (RCSA), Control Testing (CT), KRI Reporting and Operational Risk Management System, with proper communication to relevant businesses / functions to facilitate an effective management of operational risk.Coordinate and implement bank-wide control testing/assurance program, including understanding control designs, facilitating on test plan and script preparation and individual sampling.Monitoring and reporting of the Bank’s operational risk profile and exposure to the branch management.Perform root cause analysis and investigation into operational risk incidents to identify the root cause(s), provide recommendations to address the control weakness and evaluate the effectiveness of the corrective and preventive control measures applied.Provide consultancy and advice to 1st Line of defense in relation to operational risk management.Provide the training to promote the staff awareness of operational risk management in the Bank.Support to review and provide comments for outsourcing activities, information security and IT & Cybersecurity riskAssist the team lead for developing (coaching, career progression and training) and recognizing team members.Communicate effectively with stakeholders across multiple departments—including regional offices and group headquarters—to enhance the organisation’s operational risk management framework.Build relationships throughout the organisation to establish a peer network that supports information gathering and effective inter-departmental collaboration.What you bring:

At least 7 years’ working experience in operational risk management in bank.
Holder of ECF-ORM qualification will be an advantage.Strong negotiation skills to communicate/negotiate with different stakeholders including Head Office and Regional Office.Demonstrated experience working effectively in environments characterised by rapid change and tight deadlines while consistently delivering high-quality results.Proven background in risk management within commercial banking operations, with a thorough understanding of relevant banking operations, processes and controls.Excellent project management skills, track record of successfully coordinating multiple projects or activities across diverse teams and stakeholders.Excellent communication abilities complemented by strong interpersonal skills that promote collaboration and trust among colleagues.A proactive attitude combined with motivation to take initiative on tasks without waiting for direction.Ability to prioritise workload efficiently based on urgency while maintaining focus on key objectives.Structured thinking style supported by logical reasoning when approaching complex problems or making decisions.Exceptional attention to detail resulting in accurate outputs even under significant time constraints or pressure situations.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook for reporting and analysis purposes.Experience in developing and implementing controls frameworks (RCSA and CT) would be an advantage.With outsourcing management or IT and cybersecurity risk related experiences is a plus.Fluency in both Cantonese and English enabling effective communication within multicultural teams.Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) is an equal opportunity employer.
