About the Research Centre
In collaboration with CityU, University of Oxford, and Karolinska Institutet, the Hong Kong Centre for Cerebro-cardiovascular Health Engineering (COCHE) was established with the support of the ITC-InnoHK Programme to develop new ways to tackle cardiovascular disease (CVD), which is the world's leading cause of morbidity and mortality.
To address the most pressing health challenges caused by CVD, COCHE focuses on developing innovative technologies such as flexible and wearable devices, biomedical and molecular imaging, nano-biosensing, micro-robotics, healthcare AI systems, and other ground-breaking methods to enable early prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of the disease.
These technologies can reduce human costs while alleviating financial and social burdens on the healthcare system.

Job Description
We are seeking a visionary Head of R&D and Technology Transfer to lead our multidisciplinary research and development teams and drive innovation from concept to commercialisable prototypes.
Key Responsibilities:
•Strategic R&D Leadership:
o Define and execute the R&D roadmap for biomedical devices, aligning with industry needs and regulatory requirements.
o Oversee five core R&D teams which include:
1.
Wearable Devices
2.
In-Vitro Diagnostic & Point-of-Care Devices
3.
Medical Imaging
4.
Drug Delivery Systems
5.
AI & Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Database
o Ensure seamless collaboration between teams to accelerate product development.
• Technical & Regulatory Oversight:
o Guide teams in prototyping, testing, and validation to meet required licences standards.
o Work closely with the Head of Commercialisation on market-driven R&D priorities.
o Drive intellectual property (IP) strategy, including patents and publications.
• Resource & Talent Management:
o Secure grants, partnerships, and funding for high-impact projects.
o Mentor project managers and foster a culture of scientific excellence.
General Qualification
• PhD or master’s in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years in medical device R&D, with expertise in at least two of the five team domains.
• Proven track record of leading large, multidisciplinary R&D teams.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory pathways (ISO 13485, FDA Class II/III).
• Experience in AI/machine learning applications in healthcare (for CVD/AI team oversight).
Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
Remuneration & Duration of Appointment
The remuneration package will be highly competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Fringe benefits for full-time appointments include leave and medical insurance, etc.
The possibility of re-appointment after the initial contract period will be based on performance evaluation and mutual agreements.
