A Fortune 500 broadcaster is now seeking a Broadcast & IT Technology Director to join their team in Hong Kong.
The Director is responsible for the day to day operation and administration of the department.
He or she is responsible for planning, budgeting, purchasing, hiring, scheduling, training, and deployment of personnel to support and maintain the IT infrastructure, post production facilities, quality control monitoring, and delivery functions of content and third party products.
Additional focus is on the planning, design, construction, installation, maintenance and repair of the equipment and facilities needed to support the other departments in the performance of their work.
Also responsible for overseeing engineering design, development, installation, and debugging of existing and new technical facilities.
Increased emphasis is on the ingest, encoding, movement and storage of content as data files along with their associated metadata, and the protection from outside sources of the associated LANs, WANs, and SANs, as well as the files themselves.
This person is also responsible for BCP, DR, Audit, negotiating contract terms conditions and costs with systems integrators.
The broadcast industry has undergone a big change over the past few years, moving away from the traditional broadcast technology towards an IT based file transfer type of technology.
The person occupying this position needs to have a unique mixture of experience, knowledge, and skills that span both broadcast and IT technology.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the day to day maintenance, repair, project planning, design, installation, and administrative functions of the department.
Maintain and ensure all documentation is up to date including but not limited to system diagrams (IT and technical facilities), schematics, technical specification documents and standards and training manuals.Direct the development of strategic plans to organize the department to meet its service responsibilities and operate efficiently while undergoing rapid change due to the adoption of newer Broadcast IT based technologies, the launch of new services, and the construction of new facilities.
Facilitate the development and implementation of job responsibilities and procedures to increase efficiency and effectiveness of departmental response to changing customer and industry standards.
Oversee implementation of those plans.Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and deploying the Infrastructure, engineering and PMO staff in a manner that maximizes their ability to work effectively and efficiently with other internal and external teams across the APAC business.
Instill a customer service mentality in the deliverable of services.
Conduct timely performance evaluations of all departmental personnel.Report to VP APAC and working with him to establish and maintain realistic budgets (capital & operating).
Approve and monitor the purchases of equipment and services.
Guide the staff in developing and maintaining timelines.Minimum Experience Requirements:
This position requires a person with a mixture of traditional Broadcast Engineering and Computer Engineering skills.
This person requires a thorough understanding of risk mitigation and management in both the traditional Broadcast and IT realms.
It requires an innovative and imaginative approach to content ingest, security, storage, and distribution.
It also requires an individual who is not locked into the traditional ways of doing things, and is instead an advocate for change, and can help lead the department in implementing such change.
At least 5-10 years Experience in Broadcast Engineering & Design
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical and/or Computer) or equivalent experience (preferably both)
