What you'll do:
As an Assistant Vice President Anti-Money Laundering Strategy and Governance based in Hong Kong, you will play a central role in fortifying the organisation’s approach to financial crime prevention.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve close cooperation with senior leaders to ensure that governance frameworks are robustly managed.
You will serve as a trusted advisor on complex KYC cases and sanctions queries while maintaining strong relationships with regulatory authorities.
By preparing detailed reports for governance committees and overseeing data governance initiatives, you will help drive continuous improvement in compliance practices.
Your involvement in policy consultations, product risk assessments, regulatory change implementations, and participation in global projects will allow you to influence strategic decisions that shape the future of financial crime compliance.
Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, collaborative spirit across teams locally and globally, proactive engagement with evolving regulations, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity throughout all activities.
* Assist in all aspects of the branch’s Governance and Oversight function, providing essential support to senior management in managing financial crime compliance activities.
* Act as a primary liaison for the Financial Crime Compliance team when interacting with regulators such as HKMA, industry associations like HKAB, internal and external auditors, and other oversight bodies.
* Prepare comprehensive management reports and updates for various governance committees including AML Sub-Committee meetings and management forums.
* Oversee data governance processes and manage issues related to financial crime compliance within the branch, ensuring timely resolution through collaboration with local and regional stakeholders.
* Manage progress on local financial crime issues efficiently by coordinating responses to internal audit inquiries and validating issue completion.
* Ensure policies and procedures are regularly maintained and reviewed in line with global requirements to uphold compliance standards.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local regulatory requirements, advising on changes particularly those related to HKMA/AMLO regulations concerning governance, risk assessments, business continuity planning, and outsourcing.
* Provide expert advisory support on financial crime matters including KYC reviews for onboarding requests, periodic reviews, trigger events, trade AML concerns, and sanctions advice.
* Consult on global and regional policy localisation efforts as well as assess impacts of local regulatory changes for effective implementation.
* Review new product approval requests alongside conducting periodic risk assessments of products to ensure alignment with compliance standards.
* Participate actively in global or regional financial crime projects such as system enhancements or rollouts to strengthen organisational defences against financial crimes.
* Collaborate effectively with stakeholders within the Hong Kong branch as well as regional or global teams to foster a unified approach towards compliance objectives.
* Support management reporting needs along with handling ad hoc tasks or team-related matters as required.
What you bring:
To excel as an Assistant Vice President Anti-Money Laundering Strategy and Governance you will bring substantial experience from previous roles within banking compliance or audit environments where you have developed expertise in managing complex financial crime risks.
Your background should include hands-on involvement with KYC reviews or AML/sanctions advisory work that demonstrates your ability to navigate intricate regulatory landscapes.
You will possess strong analytical capabilities supported by advanced technical skills using tools like Excel for data-driven decision making.
Your interpersonal strengths will enable you to build trustful relationships across departments while communicating effectively with both internal colleagues and external parties such as regulators or auditors.
Ideally holding relevant industry certifications—such as CAMS—you will show commitment to ongoing professional development.
Your fluency in English (and preferably Chinese) ensures seamless collaboration within multicultural teams.
Above all else your dependability reliability sensitivity towards others’ perspectives willingness to share knowledge openly make you an invaluable contributor who thrives within supportive inclusive environments.
* A minimum of five years’ experience in banking compliance or audit roles focused on financial crimes compliance is essential for success in this position.
* Demonstrated project management skills combined with deep expertise in KYC processes or AML/sanctions advisory work are highly valued.
* Comprehensive understanding of effective financial crimes risk management frameworks coupled with excellent problem-solving abilities is required.
* Outstanding interpersonal skills enabling you to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing across all levels of the organisation are crucial.
* Proven ability to interact constructively with bank staff, management teams, directors, regulators, auditors, and external partners is important.
* Relevant certifications such as AAMLP/CAMLP/CAMS or other recognised qualifications in financial crime compliance are preferred but not mandatory.
* Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite—especially Excel—for data analysis and reporting purposes is expected.
* Fluency in written and spoken English is necessary; proficiency in Chinese would be considered an asset for engaging with local stakeholders.
